The mission of The New Jazz Listener is to introduce jazz to new people, in hopes of converting them into jazz fans. Our vision is that those new fans will help fill jazz audiences in their corner of the world, thereby supporting local musicians and jazz presenters.

With this event in Los Angeles, we are launching a concept to help carry out our vision.

NJL member, Leon Pereira, has challenged himself to listen to our entire 1000+ song playlist in chronological order! As of September 22, 2024 he was at song #203, “You’ve Changed” by Marvin Gaye.

Past guest, Michael Akin, cited the now closed HR-57 in DC as his favorite jazz club. Named after the U.S. House Resolution that designated jazz as a national American treasure, the question is did you go to the original HR-57 on 9th Street NW or at its subsequent H Street NE locations?
